Qatar meets the LNG needs of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by up to 50 percent. This figure is expected to rise because of growing demand, according to Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar al Kuwari.

He was addressing the ASEAN-Qatar Chamber Joint Business Seminar on today.

Aiming at highlighting the investment opportunities in ASEAN region, the seminar was organised by ASEAN and included the participation of representatives of countries such as Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Kuwari said Qatar has keen interest in strengthening ties with ASEAN countries, not only in the field of energy, but in all economic sectors.

He called on both Qatari and ASEAN businessmen to establish effective partnerships to the benefit of both sides.

“Qatar Chamber encourages and supports ASEAN firms to work in major Qatari projects in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup 2022. Qatari businessmen are keen to explore investment opportunities in ASEAN countries, especially in construction, energy, tourism, and real estate sectors,” he added.

Chairman of the ASEAN Community in Doha (ACD) and the Ambassador of Singapore to Qatar HE Wong Kwok Pun said trade between Qatar and ASEAN countries is of the order of $16 billion and hoped this will increase in the coming years.

He added that the ASEAN region offers investment opportunities for Qatari investors in tourism, real estate, hospitality and industrial sectors.
