A seminar on “Risk Management in Public-Private Partnerships in the Mena Region”, hosted by the ICC Mena regional office in co-operation with Qatar Chamber (QC), has been held at the QC headquarters.
Qatar Development Bank , Manateq Co. and Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration participated in the event.
Speaking at the seminar Mohamed bin Twar , Qatar Chamber Vice Chairman and Head of ICC MENA Regional Office announced that some major projects under the PPP schemes will be launched soon.
The PPP is a tool adopted by governments for achieving sustainable development and accelerating their economic growth.
He stressed that the ultimate aim of this partnership is to achieve social and economic objectives that affect the greatest sectors of society citizens to keep up with contemporary developments in active ways.
There are many promising opportunities in the future for PPP which have direct positive results for all parties and for their investment values , he added.
Experts in the field gave various presentations on related topics. The seminar also served as a platform for representatives of both the public and private sectors to discuss the issues involved.
They discussed basics and theories of PPP alongside with risks and challenges arising from this partnership and how to avoid their effects.
Qatar International Center of Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) Deputy Secretary General Minas Khatchadourian said that a credible, transparent bidding process will be crucial in attracting high-quality bidders and maximizing value of money for governments.
Advising caution before embarking on any PPP project, Khatchadourian said that the Qatari government must build its capabilities to manage and implement PPPs to ward off possible liabilities.
