The First Annual Global Employers’ Summit commences
And discusses labor movement, the role of the financial sector, unemployment, and doing business in the GCC
Under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, the First Annual Global Employers’ Summit was inaugurated yesterday amidst wide participation of dignitaries and business owners.
Qatar Chamber Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani led the Chamber’s participating delegation in the summit.
Mohamed Mahdi Al Ahbabi , QC Board Member , Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari , Noora Al Awlan , and Ahmed Adel were also present at the event.
The first day incorporated four panel sessions on various topics. The first session keynote speech was presented by Mr. Guy Ryder, Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The session emphasized Doing Business in the Gulf Region, which was moderated by Mr. Othman Alrayes First Vice-Chairman of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Participated in the session Dr. Jarmo Kotilaine, Chief Economist of Bahrain Economic Development Board; Mr. Rabah Al Rabah, Director General of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Mr. Abdulla Al Owais, Vice-Chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry; and Dr. Saud Al Omari from the Council of Saudi Chambers.
The second session was entitled International Labor Migration Facilitating the Free Movement of Workers Globally, which was moderated by Ms. Ronnie Goldberg, Chairperson of IOE Policy Working Group on Labour Migration. Participated in the session Ms. Beate Andrees, Chief, Fundamental Principals and Rights at Work Branch (ILO); Ms Ellen G. Yost, Partner, Fragomen Worldwide; Mr Denis Pennel, Managing Director of International Confederation of Private Employment Services (CIETT); Dr. Richard Hooper, Global Health Advisor of International SOS; and Ms. Carmela Godeau, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (IOM).
The third session was entitled The Global Youth Unempoloyment Crisis, and was moderated by Ms. Shea Gopaul, Executive Director, Global Apprenticeships Network (GAN). Participated in the session Mr Stefan Kapferer, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD; Ms Noura Alturki, HR and CSR Executive Manager, Nesma Holding Company Ltd.; Mr Antoine Foucher, Deputy Director-General of the MEDEF; Mr Koray Genckul, Senior Director, Human Resources Operations Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide.
The final panel session for the day was entitled The Role of the Financial Sector, moderated by Engr. Nabeel Al Mahmood, CEO of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Participated in the session Ms Jacqueline Mugo, Secretary General, BUSINESSAFRICA; Mr. Fahad Al Sherawi, CEO and Managing Director of GCCIX WLL; and Mr Neil Carberry,
Director of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
On Thursday , Qatar Chamber will host a meeting with a delegation from the International Organization of Employers .
