Qatar Chamber’s Second Vice Chairman HE Rashid bin Hamad Al Athba met on Wednesday with Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Somali Federal Republic HE Duran Farah and his accompanying delegation in the presence of the First Counsellor at the embassy of Somali to the State of Qatar Abib Muse Farah.
The meeting touched on reviewing economic and commercial relations between both countries and means of enhancing them, especially between the private sectors, in addition to ways of promoting bilateral trade and stimulating investments.
On his part, Al Athba stressed that both countries are associated with strong and close relations, noting that there is a slew of agreements signed between them, such as an agreement of avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion, an agreement on encouraging and protecting mutual investments, agreement on maritime transport, an agreement on economic, trade and technical cooperation and the employment of Somali workers in Qatar.
Al Athba emphasized the Chamber’s interest and welcome to enhance economic and commercial cooperation with the Somali party, pointing out that Qatari businessmen are eager to identify the investment opportunities available in Somalia and that the Qatari economy is open and welcomes Somali products, especially livestock and meat products.
He praised the quality of Somali employment, adding that the Qatari labour market welcomes them in various fields.
For his part, the Somali Minister examined the investment climate in his country and available investment opportunities in which Qatari businessmen can invest in, noting that Somalia is seeking to attract Qatari investors to establish projects supporting the development process in Somalia and create jobs for the Somali youth.
There are several sectors in which Qatari businessmen can invest in such as agriculture and livestock projects, the Minister added, noting that Somalia is characterized by producing meat and livestock and is eager to boost its exports of these products to Qatar.
The Somali Minister stressed that his country is willing to recruit more Somali employment in Qatar, calling the Qatari private sector to employ Somalis in their businesses and projects.
