QFZA, Qatar Chamber ink agreement to expand cooperation, support Qatar’s economic diversification

Chairman of Qatar Chamber HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani met on Monday at the Chamber’s headquarters with Counselor Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, who is currently visiting Doha, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting touched on investment cooperation between the two countries, opportunities available on both sides, and incentives offered by the Egyptian government to attract foreign investors.

Also attended at the meeting QC First Vice-Chairman HE Mohamed bin Twar Al-Kuwari, a number of QC board members and the general manager, and HE Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Qatar Amr Kamal El-Sherbiny.

Speaking at the meeting, HE Sheikh Khalifa lauded the two countries’ relations, stressing that these relations have seen significant development over the past few years.

HE Sheikh Khalifa confirmed the strong desire of Qatari investors to expand their investments in Egypt in various sectors like agriculture, industry, food security, real estate, tourism, infrastructure, hospitality, and others.

HE praised the boom witnessed by Egypt in terms of the infrastructure and attraction of the economy, expecting that the upcoming period will see more Qatari investments in Egypt and further cooperation between Qatari and Egyptian investors through establishing joint ventures and projects.

For his part, Counselor Mohamed Abdel-Wahab reviewed procedures of doing business in Egypt and the most important incentives offered by the government for investors, and the role played by the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, as a focal point between investors and the Egyptian government.

Abdel-Wahab paid tribute to the Qatari businessmen’s interest to learn about opportunities available in his country, stressing that the Authority offers a set of incentives and facilities for investors, whether in free and economic zones or others.

He noted that there are about 50 investment opportunities poised for investment, calling the Chamber to circulate among its members and Qatari investors.

“The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones is prepared to help Qataris willing to invest in Egypt, inform them on the available opportunities and streamline procedures to commence their projects in a short time,” he said.

He called on Qatari investors to visit Egypt to get acquainted with these opportunities galore in a number of promising sectors, inviting the Chamber and Qatari businessmen to attend the ‘Arab Investment Forum’, which is scheduled to be held in September this year in Cairo, to meet their Egyptian counterparts to discuss investment opportunities on the ground.

During the meeting, both parties agreed on the importance to boost cooperation between both entities and the need to activate the Qatari Egyptian Business Council. They also discussed the possibility to hold joint fairs to promote Qatari and Egyptian products on both sides.
