Qatar Chamber, in cooperation with the General Authority of Customs, recently held the joint meeting of the National Committee for the Systems of Customs Clearance and Cross-Border Trade Facilitation with Qatar Chamber’s sectorial committees which was held on Monday in Westin Hotel.
The meeting touched on reviewing challenges facing businessmen in relation with customs procedures.
It also discussed many topics related to fees, Al Nadeeb system and the Authorized Economic Operator Program.
During the meeting, businessmen are invited to join import to re-export initiative.
The meeting was co-chaired by Qatar Chamber second vice chairman HE Rashid bin Hamad al-Athba and Acting Assistant of Chairman of the Authority for Customs Affairs and Chair of the National Committee Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Mohannadi, in the presence of the committee members and a number of QC board members and businessmen, as well as many directors of the GAC.
Addressing the meeting, Al-Athba said that streamlining customs procedures play a key role in organising trade overseas and facilitating the movement of goods among countries.
Al-Athba noted that the meeting aims to examine means of facilitating commodities flow from and to the state, especially with the approach of the host of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He praised the positive cooperation between the Qatar Chamber and the General Authority of Customs through working teams and joint initiatives with the aim to streamline interests of the private sector and business environment in the state, affirming their preparedness to exert all possible efforts to solve all private sector-related issues and affairs and combat all challenges faced by businessmen for finding appropriate solutions.
On his apart, Al Mohannadi thanked the Chamber for the invitation for holding the meeting and its keenness to help businessmen to introduce their views and opinions regarding the challenges facing them in relation with customs procedures.
He pointed to the formation of the the National Committee for the Systems of Customs Clearance and Cross-Border Trade Facilitation which was formed by Decision No 19 of 2020 to amend Resolution No 36 of 2014 regarding the establishment of the committee which is responsible for following up and facilitating government procedures related to trade exchange operations between Qatar and all countries of the world, by working to simplify customs procedures and non-customs restrictions and requirements at ports.
He also reviewed the committee’s members, competences, tasks, and achievements, affirming that it is interested to address challenges facing the privater sector and involving it in making decisions.
The committee made many recommendations that helped in addressing many challenges, he added.
