Securing Sport 2018
Washington D.C., USA; 16 January 2018; The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) and The McCain Institute will join forces this week to co-host Securing Sport 2018 – the leading annual conference exploring security and integrity issues in sport.
Following the international success of previous editions and under the overall theme of ‘The Business of Protecting the Future of Sport’, Securing Sport will once again bring together recognised leaders and international experts from the world of sport, security, technology, law enforcement, civil society and youth affairs to focus on the key issues currently affecting the security and integrity of sport.
Taking place in Washington D.C. on 17 January 2018, Securing Sport 2018 will also be supported by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will feature keynote speeches and panels focused on business opportunities associated with the growth of sport and World Cup 2022, the safety and security of sporting events, and financial transparency and integrity of sport.
QC’s chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassem Al Thani said that it is with great pride for the Chamber to participate and to provide the support for this globally-renowned sports event which provides us a unique opportunity to promote the Qatari sports worldwide.
Commending the privileged elite of international experts and outstanding leaders taking part in the event, HE pointed out that this would significantly enrich its outcomes, noting that the forum’s themes are of a very special importance to the worlds of sport and business together. Business and sports are interrelated and often intertwined, he added.
Sheikh Khalifa affirmed the QC’s keenness on representing the State of Qatar in every regional and international forum particularly that Qatar is on the point of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, assuring that vigorous efforts have been made at all levels to make this international tournament of a great success.
Many infrastructure projects relating to the 2022 were completed and delivered ahead of schedule, while others are in their final stages’’ he noted.
Representing Qatar Chamber in the conference, QC’s Board Member Adel Al Mannai will attend on behalf of the chairman HE Sheikh Khlaifa.
With business of sport experiencing unprecedented growth in many regions around the world, topics and issues to be covered at Securing Sport 2018 include:
- Business opportunities associated with the growth of sport;
- The safety and security of sporting events, venues and athletes/players;
- The governance, financial transparency and integrity of sport;
- The problem of cheating within sport, whether doping or match fixing;
- The potential of youth abuse in sport.
