QC & Roscongress Foundation sign MoU to boost cooperation

The Qatar Chamber (QC) signed a cooperation agreement with Roscongress Foundation, a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organizer of international events, to boost cooperation. The MoU was inked on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019 (SPIEF) which was held in St Petersburg, Russia from June 6 to 8.

This agreement enables Qatar to be an official partner at the next edition of SPIEF that will be held in June 2020.

This year’s SPIEF event was held under the theme “Establishing the Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

The agreement was signed by QC Board Member Ali Abdul Latif al Misnad and Roscongress Foundation CEO Alexander Stuglev.

It aims to outline plans for the organizations to work together on building effective links between the expert and business communities of the two countries.

On the occasion, Al Misnad said that the participation of QC in the event highlights its keenness to strengthen cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and its Russian counterpart as well as promote Qatar economy and investment climate and projects of the private sector.

It also aims to identify business opportunities available in the Russian market and review possibility of establishing joint alliances between Qatari and Russian businessmen in both countries.

He noted that the forum represented a brilliant opportunity for holding meetings with businessmen from many countries, affirming that the forum is an international platform that brings together decision makers, economic experts and heads of major foreign companies and representatives of business communities from all over the world.

Al Misnad pointed out that the signed agreement sets out initiatives in a number of areas. These include organizing bilateral and multilateral events in the energy, economic, and social sectors, particularly forums, conferences, roundtables, business meetings, expos, and presentations.

He said that the next edition of the forum will see a significant Qatari participation from business sectors.

He underscored the strong relation between Qatar and Russia in all economic and commercial fields, noting that their trade volume reached last year QR 1.1bn, registering a 240 percent growth compared to QR308m in 2017.

Qatar is represented at the forum by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar Chamber, Qatar Russian Business Council, Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Financial Center, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Airways, National Tourism Council, Higher Committee for Projects and Heritage, Gulf Organisation for Research and Development, Science and Technology Park, Qatar University, Center for Sustainable Development – Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
