Qatar Chamber’s Food Security and Restaurants Committee held a meeting to discuss the challenges facing catering and restaurant companies in the country.
In a statement, the chamber said the committee reviewed the issues faced by the catering and restaurant company owners and discussed the corresponding solutions to overcome the obstacles confronting the sector.
Qatar Chamber said the meeting, which was presided over by board member and committee chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, touched on the draft decision of the Ministry of Public Health on the training of food handlers and its expected impact on restaurants and food companies.
The meeting also discussed a proposal to conduct a price assessment study in restaurants and food companies through a specialised company. The study will be later discussed with the Consumer Protection Department, the statement continued.
Al-Obaidli stressed on the importance of providing assistance to startups in the food sector. Similarly, the meeting discussed the future of co-operation between restaurant owners, as well as an invitation for the country’s major food companies to join the restaurant committee.
The participants also discussed the possibility of establishing alliances in the restaurants marketing to take advantage of collective capabilities, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
Al-Obaidli also called for the establishment of partnerships between restaurant companies to develop their businesses and reduce operational costs. He also emphasised the importance of strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the restaurant and food sector.
