Qatar Chamber postpones AGM to May 30

The annual general meeting (AGM) of Qatar Chamber (QC) on Monday was postponed due of lack of quorum, Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassem al Thani has said.

The next AGM will be held on May 30 as representatives of only 89 companies reported for the meeting on May 14, Sheikh Khalifa announced.

The meeting requires the participation of at least 28,682 companies out of 57,363 registered at QC to fulfill the legal quorum for holding an AGM, QC said in a statement.

Sheikh Khalifa has urged all registered companies to participate in the second AGM on May 30, which will begin at 10 pm at La Cigale Hotel. The registration will begin three hours before the meeting.

The AGM will discuss QC’s fiscal report for the year ending December 31, 2017 and will appoint a new auditor for the 2018 financial year.

The meeting will also witness the election of six council of board of directors.
The members who have the right to attend and vote should accomplish the subscription for 2018 until the date of the general assembly meeting.

Meanwhile, the Supervising Committee of the Elections of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry chaired by Helal Mohamed al Kholaifi held a meeting on Monday to get acquainted with the latest preparations for the election.

Kholaifi said the committee was informed on the mechanism of registering members and discussed preparations of voting to secure a fair election process.

The election will be held in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Economy and Commerce No 83 of 2018 and Resolution No 86 regarding formulating the supervising committee on the chamber’s elections, he noted.

The chamber will continue to receive and attest proxies of members until May 28.
