Qatar Chamber participates in ALO’s Arab working women forum

Qatar Chamber has participated in the “Arab Forum for Working Women” organised by Arab Labour Organization (ALO) in Cairo.

The chamber was represented by QC board member and Chairperson of Qatari Businesswomen Forum Ibtihaj al Ahmadani.

During the forum, the ‘Arabic Strategy for the Advancement of Women in the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030’ was launched.

The strategy was prepared in implementation of the decision of the 44th Arab Labor Conference in 2017, and the recommendation of the 16th Arab Women Affairs Committee held last year.

The forum discussed various topics including the role played by the organisation in promoting issues related to women’s work, support for the participation of Arab women in sustainable development and the role of media in supporting working women.

It also reviewed mechanisms and policies that back the presence of women in decision-making positions in trade union organisations, UN projects on women 7and enhancing girls and women’s participation in labour sector.

Ahmadani said women’s empowerment represented comprehensive developmental and societal dimensions, pointing out that the Arab Strategy for the Advancement of Women’s Work 2030 launched by the ALO called on concerned authorities in the Arab countries to strengthen their cooperation and collaboration in order to support equality and promote the rights of working women.

She stressed the chamber’s interest and keenness on backing Arab cooperation for improving women labourers’ environment and providing support for women’s projects through finance and promoting their products.

She noted that Qatar Chamber offered support for home-based businesses by helping women to transfer their businesses to small and medium businesses.
