QC Highlights Efforts for Employment of People with Disabilities

Qatar Chamber (QC) has reviewed its efforts to encourage private sector companies to provide an opportunity for people with disabilities to find jobs befitting their abilities and absorb their skills.

HE Member of the Board of Directors of International Relations at the Qatar International Center for Reconciliation and Arbitration Dr. Sheikh Thani Bin Ali Al-Thani addressed the initiatives launched by QC to encourage private sector companies to recruit and integrate this important group into the Qatari labor market.

In a meeting, organized by the Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf, on the occasion of the 44th Arab Deaf Week under the slogan “under the slogan Urging the government entities and their affiliated institutions to employ the deaf”, H.E added that QC hosted last week the activities of the Career Day for Persons with Disabilities with the participation of 16 companies. During which he interviewed several people with special needs in preparation for their employment, as well as other initiatives launched by QC to encourage companies to employ people with disabilities and to benefit from their skills.

He pointed out that the State of Qatar adopted a set of laws to remove the social and functional obstacles that face people with disabilities, and their functional rights were considered part of a protection system provided by the international laws and conventions to consecrate and protect this important segment of society.

His Excellency Sheikh Thani Bin Ali Al-Thani addressed Law No. 2 of 2004 on Persons with Special Needs, which approved the right of this group to education, rehabilitation, medical and psychological care, relief services, aid, access to tools and devices and means of transportation. Article 5 of the Law also approved the employment of persons with special needs who hold diplomas at a rate of not less than 2 percent of the total grades of posts in the competent authorities.

He pointed out that the recruitment of People with disabilities is in accordance with their abilities and qualifications, each employer in the private sector employing 25 or more workers shall be obliged to allocate the percentage provided for in paragraph 1 to persons with special needs for their appointment and at least one worker.
