Qatari businessmen aspire to strengthen trade relations with their Omani counterparts and sign long-term agreements to establish co-operation in various trade sectors to ensure increased trade and smooth flow of goods between the two countries over the long term, Qatar Chamber (QC) has said in a statement.
The Qatari businessmen were on a working visit to Oman as part of a delegation that included more than 140 people, “seeking to enhance trade relations between the two brotherly countries, discuss the investment opportunities available and the possibility of establishing alliances between Qatari and Omani businessmen, and explore joint ventures both in Qatar and Oman”, the statement noted.
A number of Qatari businessmen highlighted that the launch of two direct shipping routes between Hamad Port and the Omani ports of Sohar and Salalah would contribute to achieving these objectives, thereby enhancing the movement of trade between the two countries.
They also praised the role of QC under the chairmanship of HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani in speeding up efforts to find suitable alternatives immediately after Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain cut off ties with Qatar and close their land borders and airspace.
They stressed that the meetings organised by the Chamber over the past few days, for companies importing food and goods as well as firms importing raw materials for construction and other commodities, have played a major role in removing all obstacles facing these companies and facilitating the supply of goods to the Qatari market through available alternatives.
Further, they pointed out that the visit to Muscat underscored the depth of relations between Qatar and Oman, during which they would review ways to enhance the joint relations to realise more co-operation in various fields of trade and investment.
The Qatari businessmen are scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with their Omani counterparts to discuss how to establish partnerships to promote intra-trade and identify Omani products needed by the Qatari market, especially in the food, raw materials and other industries.
The Omani side is expected to organise an exhibition for their industries and introduce the Qatari delegation to such industries, highlight the readiness of Omani industrial companies to supply their products to the Qatari market and gauge the extent to which Qatari traders are interested in importing such goods
