Qatar, Canada discus trade ties

Canada is planning to set up a trade office in Qatar to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, Trade and Investment Middle East Director Ryan Radke has said.

Speaking at a meeting between a trade delegation from the Alberta province of Canada and Qatari businessmen at the Qatar Chamber on Tuesday, Radke said that the trade office in Qatar will be aimed at promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in both the countries. Highlighting trade relations between Alberta province and GCC countries in general and Qatar in particular through a video presentation on the occasion, Radke said that the trade volume between Qatar and Alberta, which is 107 million Canadian dollars as of now, will grow manifold in the near future with the opening of the new office.

Qatar Chamber Director General Remy Rowhani said the visit of the Canadian delegation to Doha was a good occasion to discuss cooperation between private sectors of both countries in various fields. Seeking expertise of Canadian companies in developing the SME sector of Qatar, he said the Qatari government is giving full support to the SME sector under its economic diversification plans. He hoped that the meeting would come out with concrete plans that benefit both sides.
