Private Sector Exports Quarterly Report – Third Quarter – (July-September) 2022

(1) Analysis of Private Sector Exports based on Certificates of Origin (Q3 – 2022):
The total value of private sector exports (according to the certificate of origin issued by the Qatar Chamber) during the third quarter (Q3) of 2022 amounted to QR 3.38 billion, showing an increase of 58 percent on an annualised basis compared to the same period of the previous year which amounted to QR 5.96 billion.
On a quarterly basis, it also surged 5 percent compared to QR 8.92 billion in Q2 of the same year.
Graph (1) below shows that the private sector exports continued to grow from Q3 of 2021 till Q3 of this year. This surge clearly confirms the ongoing improvement of the private sector’s performance and its ability to return to its levels before the pandemic.

Data of Table (1) and Graph (2) indicate that exports of the private sector during Q3/2022 according to the type of certificates of origin issued by the Chamber through The General model amounted to QR5.71 bn, an increase of 61 percent y-on-y during Q3 of 2021 which amounted to QR3.54 bn, and by 10.1 percent on a quarterly basis in Q2/2022 which amounted to QR5.190bn.
They are followed by exports through the Unified GCC model which are estimated at QR 2.31 bn, recording an increase of 43.1 percent compared to QR 1.6bn on an annual basis, while it decreased by 6.4 percent on a quarterly basis compared to QR 2.478bn in Q2/2022.
In Q3/2022, the value of exports through the GSP model amounted to QR 877 mn, an increase of 111 percent on a yearly basis compared to QR414mn in Q3/2021, and by 23 percent on a quarterly basis compared to QR 710 mn in Q2/2022.
Exports through the Unified Arab model amounted to QR239 mn, showing a decrease by 1.2 percent on a y-on-y basis in Q3/2021 which amounted to QR242 mn and by 31.1 percent on a quarterly basis which amounted to QR347 mn in Q2/2022.
Exports through the Singapore model (QR 227mn) grew by 69.5 percent on a y-on-y basis compared to QR 133mn in Q3/2021 and by 17.4 percent on a quarterly basis compared to QR 193mn in Q2/2022.

Data of Table (2) shows that exports of six commodities increased, while four commodities decreased. Below, we review the commodities in the list orderly (according to the highest value in Q3-2022):
- Fuel: The value of exports of this commodity in Q3-2022 amounted to QR 2.83 billion, showing a significant increase of 241.4 percent on a yearly basis compared to its value during the same period of the previous year, which amounted to QR 829 million. On a quarterly basis, it increased by 12.3 percent compared to QR 2.52 billion in Q2-2022.
- Essential and Industrial Oils: In Q3-2022, this commodity’s exports amounted to QR 2.49 billion, with a y-on-y 76.2 increase, compared to the same period of the previous year which amounted to QR 1.41 billion. Quarterly, it also increased by 62%, compared to its value in Q2-2021, which amounted to QR 1.53 billion.
- Aluminum: The value of exports of this commodity in Q3-2022 decreased by 6.9% on a y-on-y basis, reaching QR1.529bn, compared to QR1.642 bn in Q3-2021. On a quarterly basis, they also decreased by 37.3% compared to its value in Q2-2021, which amounted to QR 2.44 billion.
- Chemical Fertilizers: Exports of the chemical fertilizers increased on a yearly basis sharply 530%, reaching a value of QR673.67 million, compared to the same period last year which amounted to QR106.8 million. On a quarterly basis, they also increased by 89.5%, which amounted QR 355.5million.
- Steel: The value of exports of the steel commodity amounted to QR 346 million, showing a y-on-y sharp increase of 2232 percent compared to QR 14 million in Q3-2021. It also increased quarterly by 99.8% compared to QR 173.29 million in Q2-2022.
- Lotrene: The value of exports of this commodity in Q3-2022 amounted to QR 341.26 million, a decrease of 6.1% y-on-y compared to its value during the same period of the previous year, which amounted to QR363.62 million. On a quarterly basis, it also decreased by 12.2 % compared to its value in Q2-2022, which amounted to QR 388.51 million.
- Chemical Substances: In Q3-2022, chemical substances exports amounted to QR 339.21 million, an increase of 10.8% compared to its value in the same period of the previous year, which amounted to QR 306.25 million. On a quarterly basis, they grew by 31.7% compared to its value in Q2- 2022, which amounted to QR 257.51 million.
- Paraffin: The value of exports of this commodity in Q3-2022 amounted to QR334.84 million, an increase of 50% on a yearly basis, compared to its value during the same period of the previous year, which amounted to about QR 223.25 million. Quarterly, It also surged by 54 % compared to the value of exports from it during Q3/2022, which amounted to QR 217.47million.
- Industrial Gases: The value of exports of this commodity in Q3-2022 amounted to QR 168.55 million, a decrease of 70% on a yearly basis, compared to its value during the same period of the previous year, which amounted to about QR 561.60 million. On a quarterly basis, exports of industrial gases increased by 13.7% compared to QR 195.37 million in Q2/2022.
- Petrochemicals: The value of petrochemicals exports amounted to QR 5.10million, recording a 98.5 y-on-y decrease compared to QR 345.40 million in the same period of the previous year. It also decreased on a q-on-q basis by 31.6% compared to QR 7.46 million in Q2/2022.
These ten commodities exported by the private sector represent 96.6% of the total value of private export exports, according to the certificates of origin issued by the Qatar Chamber during Q3/2022, which amounted to QR 9,061.35 million, registering a 56 % y-on-y growth compared to Q3/2021 and a 11.9% q-on-q growth compared to Q2/2022.

As for economic blocs and groupings, the Asian countries (excluding GCC and Arab countries) were at the top of economic blocs that received exports of private sector during Q3/2022 which amounted to QR 3,375.44 million with a share of 35.99% of the total exports, followed by the EU which received exports amounted to QR 2,906.48 million or a share of 30.99% of the total value.
In third place came the group of GCC states, with exports totaling QR 2,381.22 million representing 25.39 percent of the total value, followed by the UAS that received QR 315.74 million, a share of 3.37 percent and the group of Arab countries excluding GCC states with exports amounted to QR 257.55 million, or a share of 2.74 percent of the total exports.
The grouping of African Countries excluding Arab countries came in the sixth place, which received 1.29 % of the total exports, with a value of QR 121.10 million, followed by other American countries which received exports estimated at QR9.88 million or a share of 0.11%, Other European Countries with a value of QR 0.09% of QR 8.41 million and the grouping of Oceania which received exports estimated at QR 2.44 million or a share of 0.03 percent of the total exports.
The number of countries receiving Qatari exports in Q3-2022 was 99 countries in the above economic groupings. The African grouping came to the forefront with 30 countries. Asia came then with 21 countries, followed by the European Union and Arab countries excluding GCC states with 13 countries for each, 10 American countries, then the GCC and other European countries with 5 countries for each, and lastly, the USA and one country (Australia) in the Oceania grouping.

In Q3/2022, Oman was at the top of the countries of destination of private sector exports with close to QR 1,506.69 million, a share of 16.1 percent of the total exports.
It is followed by Netherlands with almost QR 1,331.75 million and a share of 14.2 percent and India with about QR 1,310.79 million, a share of 14 percent.
China came in fourth place with almost QR 616.90 million, a share of 6.6 percent and France with exports amounted to about QR 596.51 million, a share of 6.4 percent.
Germany came in the sixth place which received exports amounting to QR532.50 million, a share of 5.7 percent, followed by Singapore with almost QR 437.56 million, a share of 4.7 percent, Turkey with QR 482.38 million, a share of 4.6 percent, UAE with almost QR 368.23 million or 3.9 percent and Bangladesh with exports amounting to QR 342.60 million or a share of 3.7 percent of the total value.
Together, these ten countries accounted for 79.7 % and a value of QR 7,471.72 million of private sector exports according to the certificate of origin during Q3 of 2022, totaling around QR 9,378.26 million.
