Over 490 experts to attend International Arbitration meet

More than 490 experts representing several international and regional institutions will participate in the Second International Arbitration Conference to be held in Doha on October 18-19, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) board member Sheikh Thani bin Ali bin Saud al Thani has said.

He said this year’s conference would gather several experts from all over the world, including the honorary president of the Union of Lawyers Gulf Prince Bandar bin Salman bin Mohammed al Saud, Director of the International Trade Law Division at United Nations Office of Legal Affairs and Secretary of”UNCITRAL” Renaud Sorieul, and Chairman of the Permanent Court of Arbitration Brooke Daley.

Speaking on the sidelines of the official announcement of the conference today, Sheikh Thani told Qatar Tribune that the conference aims at exchanging expertise with global and regional arbitration centres.”The conference also promotes arbitration as a method of settling commercial disputes in an efficient manner that would enhance Qatar’s position as an investment destination,” he added
The conference would focus on number topics, including a review of the Qatari arbitration texts and related court rulings, and also the role of GCC arbitration centres in developing an investment-friendly environment.

The conference will include several workshops, where participants will discuss modern trends in arbitration, updating Qatari legislation to create an attractive ground for investment, integration between Qatari laws and international treaties to protect the rights of Qatari investors abroad and the role of the national judiciary in supporting and controlling commercial arbitration and the implementation of the arbitrators’ rulings.
